The Physics by Inquiry summer institute is a 150-hour course during which teachers "develop, through inquiry instruction, an in-depth understanding of concepts relevant to the grade levels and subjects they teach, with their own learning experiences serving as teaching and learning models for their classrooms." This course fundamentally changed the way I approach science education and I'm eager to share the inqury approach with other educators.

During my time at Seattle University I developed practical skills in innovative curriculum development, relationship-based classroom management, and research-based instructional practices. I also learned to see education as a tool for social change. My student-teaching at Shoreline High School included working with a spirited 9th grade intensified algebra class and a wonderfully opinionated 12th grade physics class.

The WWU Geology Department was successesful in their mission to "create excitement about discovery and the process of geologic inquiry." During my time at Western I developed an appreciation for field-based research, a solid foundation in scientific inquiry, and a passion for the outdoors.
